90 Day Wedding Shape Up

90 Day Wedding Shape Up

Staff Writer, California Gay Weddings

The count-down to your wedding can be insane, chaotic, and stressful! The key is taking care of yourself in the last few months to ensure you look and feel your best. The excitement of tying the knot can lead you to celebratory overindulgence. Here are some tips for keeping fit before (and after) your special day.  (Before making any changes to your diet or exercise routine, be sure to check with your physician!)

Focus on Nutrition

Diet is often the first thing to go down the tubes in the crazy days of wedding planning. While running from vendor to vendor on your lunch hour or after work, the temptation to grab a burger and fries can be great, but doing so will only make you look and feel worse in the long run. Instead, plan ahead. Carry healthy snacks with you such as low-fat string cheese, whole grain crackers, nuts, and apples. When you do have time to prepare an adequate meal, add nutrition-dense foods to your diet. Dark, leafy green and purple veggies such as kale, spinach, red cabbage or beets, are a great way to ensure you’re getting the nutrients you need. Or whip up a smoothie with super-foods like pomegranate, blueberries and other colorful fruits. Make sure you are eating whole grains and don’t forget the protein! Finally, be sure to drink plenty of water. Water makes your skin look brighter, aids digestion, and reduces appetite.

Switch to the Mediterranean Diet

Start the honeymoon early by having a Mediterranean evening. Studies have shown that this diet, rich in olive oil, vegetables and fruits, whole grains and lean protein, leads to increased health, wellbeing and longevity. And it’s tasty to boot! You can find recipes for dishes like hummus, falafel, and baba ganoush on-line, or take your fiancé (e) out for to a Mediterranean restaurant while you review the progress of your wedding plans. Do yourself and your spouse-to-be a favor and start on this healthy, delicious diet before you tie the knot.

Build Fitness into Your Schedule

Even if time-management isn’t your strong suit, you can find ways to build fitness into your schedule. Treat your workout as another appointment in your final 90-day count-down. Just as you wouldn’t skip a meeting with your wedding planner, don’t compromise on your health. Not only will regular exercise ensure you look your best on the big day, but it will also reduce the stresses associated with wedding planning. Write 30 minutes of daily exercise on your to-do list and stick to it!  Since time is of the essence, it’s important to make your workouts count. Try interval training for exercises that work several muscle groups simultaneously. The combination of cardio plus strength training means a more effective, and efficient workout. If burning calories is your main concern, make sure you do aerobic activity such as walking, running, stair climbing, or cycling – anything that gets your heart pumping. If you want to tone up for the big day, weight training should be your focus. If it is stress relief you need, book a weekly yoga class. You will feel better, become more flexible, and it will improve your posture so you will look fabulous in your wedding attire. Most importantly, choose exercise that you enjoy – you’ll be much more inclined to stick with it!

Get Fit With Your Partner

What better way to prepare for your new life as a same-sex married couple than by working out together? Enlist your husband or wife-to-be in getting fit with you. Take walks, hire a trainer or take a class together. It’s a great bonding activity that guarantees you’ll both look your best on your special day.
